QUESTIONS ABOUT AUDITIONS & REgistration

Hubbard Street offers a TEEN CREATE and TEEN EXPLORE Intensive catered to dancers ages 13-17. We also provide a CREATE and EXPLORE Intensive for dancers ages 18-30.

A dancer must meet our minimum age requirements by the start of the program month, meaning a dancer must be at least 13 or 18 years old by June 1 to attend our June programs, and a dancer must be 13 or 18 years old by July 1 to attend our July programs.

Please note that being accepted into our program does not automatically secure a spot. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, and spots fill up fast. As capacity is limited, we advise parents and students to register as early as possible. Once the program reaches capacity, any additional students will be added to a waitlist. If a spot becomes available, students on the waitlist will be contacted in the order in which their registration was received.

Yes! Video Auditions are currently being accepted now through February 21, 2027. Click here for information about the requirements and how to submit.

Full participation in our Summer Programs is required. Absences due to personal circumstances will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and must be pre-approved by our Summer Intensive staff before registration.

Upon enrolling in Hubbard Street's Summer Intensive programs, families must recognize that participation entails a commitment to the program and are accountable for the complete tuition amount outlined in HSDC materials. Hubbard Street upholds a policy of non-refundability, non-issuance of credits, or transfers. The tuition is non-refundable, even in cases where a dancer withdraws or is dismissed from the program before its commencement. Furthermore, HSDC does not refund tuition for missed classes due to injury or illness during active participation in the Intensive.

If Hubbard Street is forced to cancel an event, we may be unable to refund housing fees due to our third-party contract with the housing provider. However, registered students and their families will receive a refund for any tuition costs associated with their enrollment.

A limited amount of financial aid is available to dancers attending our Summer Intensives. Financial aid is awarded to families in the greatest need. Dancers can apply for assistance once accepted into our Summer Intensives.

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago takes participant privacy seriously. While our Summer Intensives are not generally subject to FERPA or HIPAA in the same way as federally funded educational institutions, we follow privacy practices informed by these standards. Personal, financial, educational, and health information is kept confidential and shared only with staff or service providers who need it to administer the program, provide support, or respond to a health or safety concern. For participants ages 18+, confidential information is not routinely shared with parents or guardians without the participant’s permission, except when necessary in emergencies or as required by law.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Yes, each intensive culminates in a Sharing event for friends and family on the final day of the program. Participating dancers will be able to invite a limited number of guests. Video recordings of the CREATE and TEEN CREATE Sharings will be distributed to participants following the programs; EXPLORE and TEEN EXPLORE receive still images only.

Dancers attending our Summer Intensives will have the opportunity to train with Artistic Director Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell, Senior Rehearsal Director and Director of Summer Intensives Jonathan E. Alsberry, Rehearsal Director Craig Black, Jr., current HSDC Dancers, and highly-accredited local professionals. Stay tuned for our full 2027 Faculty roster to be announced!

The Director of Summer Intensives assigns dancers to groups as appropriate. Class sizes in each cohort are limited to approximately 20-25 dancers, with a minimum square footage per dancer.

Classes will be held in downtown Chicago, in the South Loop area, at Columbia College Chicago. Class schedules will indicate specific studio locations. Resident Advisors will accompany students attending our TEEN CREATE and TEEN EXPLORE Intensives to and from the studios daily.

HSDC does not offer placement classes. Our Director of Summer Intensives will assign dancers to appropriate groups. Decisions are not discussed with students or parents, and dancers may not request a group change once assigned.

Depending on the program, dancers receive 24–65 hours of classes in addition to rehearsals and learning repertory or creating new work. Visit the program details page for more information.

Up to six participant choreographers will be selected from those registered for the CREATE intensive, with mentorship and support by Hubbard Street company dancers. Size of cast will depend on enrollment; maximum capacity will be 10 per piece.

Dancers are required to present themselves professionally. Hair should be removed from the dancer’s face during technique classes. Crop tops, bralettes, or any apparel that exposes the midriff are not allowed. Shorts must be mid-thigh length or longer. Any color of form-fitting apparel is acceptable.

Because Hubbard Street does not perform works on pointe, pointe work is not a part of our Summer Intensive curriculum.

QUESTIONS ABOUT HOUSING

Hubbard Street provides housing for students, just a short walk from the studios. Suites are air-conditioned, apartment-style housing with a 24-hour security guard. Each suite contains a common living space, kitchen, and shared bathroom. Apartments come with basic dorm-style furnishings. Kitchens are equipped with refrigerators, stove-top oven, and microwave. The cost of housing includes wireless internet, utilities, and free laundry facilities.

Housing costs are not included in the program tuition. Housing space is limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. All housing fees are non-refundable.

Dancers are responsible for arranging transportation between the airport and the dorms. For those who prefer a pre-arranged option, HSDC offers access to a trusted black car service for an additional fee.

Resident Advisors will be available to supervise dancers attending our TEEN CREATE and TEEN EXPLORE Intensive once they arrive at the dorms on the official check-in day.

Yes. Following auditions, dancers accepted into the programs will receive additional details about meal options. Dancers may also prepare their own meals in their suites or visit nearby restaurants and supermarkets.

The move-in and move-out dates/times differ for each program. Enrolled participants will be provided with details following their registration. Typically, move-in is the day prior to the program start and move-out is the following the Sharing event.

Dancers registered for the dorms have the option to request roommates at the time of registration. While Hubbard Street will make every effort to fulfill these requests, we cannot guarantee accommodation. For the request to be accepted, both dancers must mutually request roommates.

A cohort of qualified Resident Advisors (RAs) supervises teen dancers throughout the programs. RAs are educators, working dancers, and other professionals who are age 21+, certified in First Aid/CPR, and trained in HSDC program and safety protocols. At registration, families select the level of independence and supervision that is right for their dancer.
