HSDC will select 4-6 dancers from the EXPLORE and CREATE Summer Intensive programs to join the company for a world premiere creation process through a week-long residency during the 2024-2025 season.
Our EXPLORE Intensive is a four-week program for pre-professional and early-career dancers, ages 18 - 25.
EXPLORE Objectives: To foster both technical and artistic exploration through our broad curriculum offerings and diverse repertoire.
EXPLORE Program Dates + Schedule:
July 8 - August 2, 2024
Classes are from approximately 9am - 5:30pm, Monday through Friday. Additional offerings are available on select Saturdays. Dancers must be able to attend all four weeks of the Program.
EXPLORE Curriculum: Our EXPLORE program includes a variety of technique classes and chosen electives including: Ballet, Horton, Jazz, Limon, Graham, Countertechnique, Tap, Hip Hop, Ballroom, Partnering, Latin Sculpt, Yoga, Pilates, Image Tech, and more! Attendees will learn repertory excerpts from current Hubbard Street artists. Repertory excerpts will include works from our 46th season: Kyle Abraham, Aszure Barton, Rena Butler, Flockworks, Rennie Harris, Darrell Moultrie, Maria Torres, and more! Group mentoring sessions and educational discussions are also embedded within the program schedule.
Program Structure: Unique to our EXPLORE program, we offer dancers the opportunity to select a technique track, which gives the dancers the freedom to mold their Summer Intensive experience. Each week builds upon the latter to enhance technical skill and practice. Here is a breakdown of what you can expect from week to week:
Week 1: The focus is heavily on training with a full day of technique and elective classes.
Week 2: Technique and elective training continues with an introduction to HSDC repertoire from current HSDC dancers.
Week 3: Technical training continues. Repertoire rehearsals shift to staging, casting, and refinement of partnering as well as transitions between excerpts.
Week 4: The focus is narrowed further towards HSDC repertory. One or two classes are offered each day, followed by a deep review of HSDC repertory to be presented at the final sharing.
Class sizes in each cohort will range between 25 and 30 dancers. Dancers will be able to select their preferred track choice. Based on program capacity and the need to distribute dancers evenly in attendance, HSDC will do our best to honor your preferred track choice. Dancers will be assigned repertoire groups as deemed appropriate by the Director of Summer Intensives.
A sharing for friends and family will be offered at the conclusion of the program (limit 2 guests per dancer).

Housing
Hubbard Street offers housing for students, just a short walk from the studios. Suites are air-conditioned, apartment-style housing with a 24-hour security guard. Each suite contains a common living space, kitchen, and shared bathroom. Apartments come with basic dorm-style furnishings. Kitchens are equipped with refrigerators, stove-top oven, and sink. Included in the cost of housing is wireless internet, utilities, and free laundry facilities. Meal plans are not offered as part of our EXPLORE Summer housing package.
Registration for housing will become available at the time of program registration. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. All housing fees are non-refundable. More details regarding our housing accommodations will be provided upon acceptance.
