Hubbard Street’s education and community programming is rooted in the understanding that “dance is for everyBODY”. Our specially trained Teaching Artist serve over 6,000 students in 90 classrooms all across the city. This innovative arts integration programming is designed to serve all physical, cognitive, and developmental diversities. Committed to serving dancers throughout their entire life span, Hubbard Street founded the Midwest’s first Dance for Parkinson’s program over 40 years ago. Today, we continue to find new ways to serve Chicago’s aging community through our collaboration with Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

Born out of a desire to make dance more accessible to the Chicago community, the Ticket Access Initiative addresses two major barriers to accessing contemporary dance: financial constraints and feelings of not belonging. Hubbard Street partners with Chicago community groups like Black Girls Dance ,My Block, My Hood, My City, and Special Children’s Charities to provide them with free tickets to Hubbard Street shows. The Ticket Access Initiative provides over 1,000 tickets annually to our outstanding community partners.

Artistic Director Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell has an artistic vision rooted in the value of a diverse repertoire. She believes in honoring the past while welcoming the future, making space for a wealth of artistic voices. Each year, Hubbard Street brings new work into the repertoire ranging from world premieres to restagings, and everything in between. Her bold and innovative vision curates performances that enable our diverse audiences to see themselves represented on the stage.
