Our CREATE Intensive is a four-week program for pre-professional and early-career dancers ages 18 - 25.

CREATE Objectives: To allow dancers to engage in new works, with diverse choreographers, in an inclusive and innovative setting.

CREATE Program Dates + Schedule:
June 10 - July 3, 2024 (No classes or rehearsals will be held on June 19th)
Classes are from approximately 9am - 5:45pm, Monday through Saturday. Dancers must be able to attend all four weeks of the Program.

CREATE Curriculum: Dancers will explore, research, and collaborate with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago Company Dancers and Guest Artist Choreographers Alexander Anderson and Gianna Burright. In addition to the creative process, dancers will attend one morning technique class each day. Group mentoring sessions and educational discussions are also embedded within the program schedule.

CREATE Structure: Every participant will have the opportunity to work with a total of four choreographers. Each dancer will engage in creative work with Guest Artists. Dancers will work with each Guest Artist Choreographer in a class size ranging between 25 and 30 dancers. Dancers will be assigned groups as deemed appropriate by the Director of Summer Intensives.

In addition, every dancer will have the opportunity to engage in the creative process with one HSDC Company Dancer. Dancers will work with each HSDC Company Dancer in a class size ranging between 12 and 15 dancers. Onsite casting will be held for placement into pieces created by HSDC Company Dancers.

A sharing for friends and family will be offered at the conclusion of the program (limit 2 guests per dancer).

Housing

Hubbard Street offers housing for students, just a short walk from the studios. Suites are air-conditioned, apartment-style housing with a 24-hour security guard. Each suite contains a common living space, kitchen, and shared bathroom. Apartments come with basic dorm-style furnishings. Kitchens are equipped with refrigerators, stove-top oven, and sink. Included in the cost of housing is wireless internet, utilities, and free laundry facilities. Meal plans are not offered as part of our CREATE Summer housing package.

Registration for housing will become available at the time of program registration. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. All housing fees are non-refundable. More details regarding our housing accommodations will be provided upon acceptance.
