Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s Summer Intensive programs already offer a radically unique and inclusive training environment for dancers of all backgrounds to hone their craft and connect with the Company. Now, we are pleased to announce a brand-new initiative, bridging the gap between artist training and the launch of a professional career in dance: The HSDC Summer Intensive Fellows Program.
ABOUT THE FELLOWS PROGRAM
HSDC will be selecting 4-6 dancers from the EXPLORE and CREATE summer intensive programs to join the company for a world premiere creation process through a week-long residency during the 2023-24 season. During the Fellows Program, participants will dance alongside the company, providing an exclusive opportunity for dancers to experience firsthand what it takes to be part of a professional dance company. Dancers will also gain valuable insights into the creative process, experiencing the creation of a new work by one of HSDC’s choreographers.
The Summer Intensive Fellows Program is an unprecedented opportunity for top-performing dancers from our EXPLORE and CREATE summer intensive programs to immerse themselves in the world of a professional contemporary dance company. It provides an excellent stepping stone for students who are serious about pursuing a career in dance by offering connections with industry professionals and the chance to develop the skills and creativity necessary to confidently launch a professional dance career.
ELIGIBILITY
Dancers who are already registered for the 2023 EXPLORE or CREATE programs will automatically be considered for the Fellows Program. Because of this new initiative, we are extending the deadline for additional video audition submissions through May 15. Learn more and submit your materials here.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Dates of the Fellows Program during the 2023-24 season are dependent upon choreographer creation schedules and may occur during the spring or fall. This inaugural cohort of the Summer Intensive Fellows Program will be 4-6 dancers: 2-3 of the top-performing dancers from the EXPLORE program, and 2-3 of the top-performing dancers from the CREATE program. Fellows who are selected will each receive a stipend of $500 to contribute to their travel and housing costs.
