Ms. Butler trained at The Chicago Academy for the Arts, studied overseas at Taipei National University of the Arts in Taiwan, and received her BFA from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance in New York.
Rena has previously danced for companies such as Kyle Abraham/Abraham.In.Motion, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, Manuel Vignoulle/M-Motions, Pasos Latinos Salsa Dance Company, David Dorfman Dance, for Yara Travieso interactive film “La Medea”, and as a Guest Artist for The Merce Cunningham Trust "Night of 100 Solos: A Centennial Event” in Los Angeles, CA.
Butler was named Choreographic Fellow for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago in 2018. Her choreographic work includes The New Orleans Museum of Modern Art in collaboration with Academy Award-winning jazz composer Terrence Blanchard, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, ’CHTV Stories' television series in Switzerland, Grace Farms, The Ailey School/Fordham, SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance, Hubbard Street Professional Program, The Joffrey Ballet School in NYC, and more!
She currently serves on The Consortium for Chicago Dancemakers Forum, and is a multidisciplinary artist based in Chicago and New York City.
