PROGRAMS FOR EDUCATORS
HSDC’s forward thinking and energetic professional development workshops will guide you through the process of creating truly meaningful arts experiences for students.
HSDC offers a wide variety of professional development workshops for educators. Each workshop focuses on the vocabulary, structure and processes of dance and how each of these elements intersects and complements other curricular topics. With more than 20 years of experience in the field and well-researched educator and student outcomes, HSDC offers numerous options for your school. Workshops begin at $500 and offer CPDU’s, as well as Lane and graduate credit (through National Louis University, for workshops that are 15+ hours).

"…in our writing lab…we’ve incorporated, as one of our assignments, a dance option for them to express whatever they’ve been studying. Like we’re doing biographies right now, and one of their choices is to do a 32-count dance that kind of explains or helps the student understand the person that they’ve researched. I know there are some kids that would like that sort of avenue so that’s why with that project we put that in there as a choice." –Classroom Teacher
Our signature workshop, Move Right Into Reading© (MRIR) offers participants an introduction to HSDC’s curriculum and integration practices through the lens of reading and writing. Join us for this energizing workshop and leave with a wealth of accessible activities for your classroom. MRIR is most successful as a 15-hour workshop (three 5-hour classes), but can be condensed. A full MRIR class offers Lane credit as well as graduate credit through National Louis University (additional fees apply).
Take your students’ performance experience out of the theater! Learn to discuss and rephrase a work from HSDC’s current repertoire with your students. This workshop can go with the HSDC Creative Connections© residency or stand alone. A 2-4 hour experience.
Investigate activities integrating the processes of science with the creative potential of movement. Learn new ways to approach the teaching of simple machines, the water cycle and more. A 2-4 hour experience.
Explore innovative methods to ease transitions and assist with classroom management. Dancers are masters of effortless transitions as they move through space. Learn to use their techniques and spend less time (and energy) getting students out of their seats and more time teaching meaningfully. A 2-4 hour experience.
A follow-up to MRIR, this workshop provides a deeper exploration and additional activities linking the creative processes of language arts with the creative processes of movement. A 2-4 hour experience.
Teachers of young students know they need to move and this workshop will provide activities and strategies to incorporate dance into your classroom. From using dance to understand patterns to new ways to introduce working in small groups, you’ll leave with a wealth of new ideas and inspiration. A 2-4 hour experience.
