Exceptional training with the artists of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago

HUBBARD STREET SUMMER INTENSIVE

Elevate your artistry at Hubbard Street.

Our Summer Intensives are rigorous training programs designed for motivated dancers, ages 12–18, and pre-professional dancers, ages 18–24. Attendees take daily classes in ballet and other techniques, plus choreography progressively integrated through four different programs offered in Chicago from June to August, and at University of Southern California in June. Hubbard Street’s Summer Intensives offer unique opportunities for committed dancers to refine their skills in multiple forms, broaden their dance vocabulary, and explore the latest in contemporary movement with top artists in the field. Entry requirements, location, and time commitments vary for our four Intensives. All students who audition during our national audition tour will be placed in the level that best fits their dance training to date.

  • Registration will begin 30 minutes prior to the audition start time. There is no pre-registration for the audition.
  • Items you will need on the day of the audition include: a completed audition form, dance resume, headshot, and $20 audition fee. The audition fee is to be paid on the day of the audition by cash, check or credit card. All checks should be made payable to Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.
  • Dance resumes should be one page in length and should list the dancer’s performance & training experience (intensives, master classes, workshops, etc), as well as the current educational institute that he/she is enrolled at.

  • Headshots should represent what you look like in the studio. Professional photos are not required or encouraged. There is no specific size requirement.
  • Auditions will consist of a ballet class and based on the discretion of the instructor, students will learn Hubbard Street repertory. Unless the number of auditioners requires the instructor to break the students into smaller groups, all dancers will receive a full ballet class before being chosen to continue.
  • A leotard, tights, and ballet shoes need to be worn for ballet class. Hair should be clean and out of your face. Pointe shoes are not needed for technique class. Form fitting apparel can be worn for repertory as long as body lines are clearly visible.

Dancers will be placed by the Artistic staff in the level that is most beneficial and challenging to the student.
  • A limited amount of financial aid is available to students attending our Summer Program. Students are not eligible to apply until they have been accepted into our Intensive. Aid will be awarded based on the student’s financial need – it is not merit based.
  • Video auditions are approved on a case by case basis and due to the high volume of inquiries, not all requests will be granted. We highly encourage all students to audition in person. It is more difficult to be accepted into our program through a video audition. Video audition requests for the advanced and pre-professional level must be emailed to Krista Ellensohn no later than Sunday, February 26. Video auditions will not be accepted after Sunday, February 26.
  • If you have additional questions, please email Krista Ellensohn, Manager of Pre-Professional Programs.

Acceptance through the 2017 auditions qualifies dancers ages 16+ to be invited to Hubbard Street's year-round Intensive Programs for 2017. If interested in learning more, please send inquiries to Krista Ellensohn at kellensohn@hubbardstreetdance.com.
