Youth Dance Classes Policies & Procedures

Dress Code

• For Creative Movement: Students should wear clothing that is comfortable, does not restrict movement and does not inhibit the instructor from ensuring proper technique.

• For Jazz, Tap, and Hip Hop: girls should wear a leotard and jazz pants, boys should wear a t-shirt and jazz pants.

• For Ballet: girls should wear a black leotard and pink tights, boys should wear a white t-shirt and jazz pants.

• Appropriate shoes are required: ballet shoes for ballet class; jazz shoes for jazz class; bare feet for creative movement; tap shoes for tap class; and jazz shoes or clean sneakers for hip-hop.

• Hair must be kept back out of the face and not interfere with class.

Registration

• All registration fees and tuition are due by the first day of each class, per semester.

• A non-refundable registration fee of $25 is due with the initial payment for the year/session. This fee is added to the total due and must be paid before proceeding with the registration process.

• Hubbard Street accepts checks or Visa, MasterCard or American Express.

• All checks should be made payable to “Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.”

• $25 fee will be charged for returned checks.

• Students can withdraw from a class by the completion of the second class and receive a refund except for cost of the first two classes and a $25.00 registration and administrative processing fee.

• After the second class of the semester, all tuition is forfeited and no refunds will be offered.

• Hubbard Street reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient attendance. Alternative class placement or refunds will be offered under such circumstances.

• Instructors are subject to change. No credits or refunds will be issued in this case.

Arrival and Attendance

• Students arriving more than five minutes late to class will not be permitted to join. Late students may observe.

• Children ages 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult or parent/guardian when entering or exiting the building.

• If students are early, students should wait in the lobby for their instructor.

• Please have your students visit the restroom before the beginning of class.

• Students may change in the LCDS dressing rooms before class if necessary.

• Parents may wait in our main lobby or our studio lobby just beyond the Lou Conte Dance Studio front desk or our private Youth Studio lobby.

Classes and Instruction

• Hubbard Street and its instructors are not liable for any injuries sustained while a student is in class or on the premises.

• No video, audio, photo or any other recordings are allowed in the studios, with the exception of parent observation days.

• Parents are not allowed in the studios before or after class, with the exception of classes requiring caregiver participation. Parents are welcome to observe classes during parent observation week each semester.

• For technique classes, (ballet, jazz, tap etc) the first day of class should be considered a placement day. Hubbard Street reserves the right to move students to the most appropriate level based on their skills.

• In the event that classes are canceled due to inclement weather, there will be no make-up classes, credits or refunds.

Behavioral Policy

• No food or gum in studios. No liquids or beverages other than water is allowed in the Hubbard Street studios.

• Parents will be notified and consulted regarding any in-class behavioral issues or questions.

• If a child acts out in class in a manner that is harmful to him/herself or others, that child shall be removed from class and parents shall be notified immediately.

• Children will be dropped from a class if their behavior interferes with safety or is chronically disruptive. We may recommend that your child be moved to a more appropriate class level if needed.

Refund Policy

• Refunds will be given ONLY IF REQUESTED IN WRITING PRIOR TO THE SECOND CLASS. The cost of the first class along with a $25.00 registration/processing fee will be deducted from the refund.

• There is NO fee credit for missed classes during the school year except for a class cancelled for the session by Hubbard Street.

• Make-ups may be scheduled only during the current session if an appropriate class level is available and if approved by the Community Programs Coordinator and appropriate teaching artist.

• Please look for the Hubbard Street Youth Dance Program Monthly E-Newsletter that comes to the email address we have on file for you. Please make sure we have a correct email address for you.
